Alec, Leo, and Rae Weingott established the Kriesler Radio Company in 1928. Their first registered office was at 43 Alice Street, Newtown, in Sydney's central business district. The corporation was in financial turmoil by 1933, as the Depression intensified. Percy Tuit, an investor, bought a 49 percent stake in the company and saved it. During the 1950s and 1960s, it remained a significant radio and television manufacturer. Kriesler made a significant contribution to Australia's war effort from 1939 to 1945, which was recognised in a special 1948 Mingay's edition honouring the efforts of Australian radio manufacturers. Around 1950, Perce and Rae sold Kriesler to Philips, a Dutch music and electronics conglomerate, because they lacked the funds to enter the television manufacturing business without going public. Top-quality sets sell for hundreds of dollars locally, but the best specimens are frequently purchased in bulk by Asian merchants, who then resale them to Japanese collectors for thousands of dollars each. Radiogram is in Great Working Condition.
