Comte Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa was a French painter, printmaker, draughtsman, caricaturist, and illustrator whose immersion in the vibrant and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century allowed him to produce a collection of seductive, elegant, and provocative images of the occasionally decadent affairs of that era. Toulouse-Lautrec, who was born into aristocracy, shattered both of his legs during his adolescence and, as a result of the unusual condition Pycnodysostosis, was extremely short as an adult because of his small legs. In addition to his drinking, he also developed a fondness for brothels and prostitutes, which influenced the subject matter of many of his works and captured many specifics of the bohemian lifestyle in Paris in the late 19th century.
