John H. Gibb was a Scottish, marine painter who settled in New Zealand. After moving there in 1876, he swiftly rose to prominence in the city's budding artistic community and joined the Canterbury Society of Arts as a founding member. In order to produce his enormous landscape paintings, he travelled the nation while sketching and taking notes. His Canterbury landscape paintings are showcased in this modest focus exhibition.
