Palissy Pottery created earthenwares and was formed in 1946 in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. A. E Jones (Longton) Ltd, which founded around 1905 and traded from Palissy Pottery from 1930, had previously used the trade name. In July 1976, Spode and Royal Worcester amalgamated to establish Royal Worcester Spode, a new firm. Palissy was purchased by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company in 1958. Palissy closed in 1989, and the pottery was dismantled the following August. In August 1989, Aynsley China Ltd of Sutherland Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, which was unrelated to Spode and Worcester, purchased the Palissy trade name. Spode has a small Palissy archive, with only around a half-dozen catalogues. Game Birds was one of Palissy's most popular patterns, and Spode has a very similar pattern called Woodland.
