C.1870’s Antique Silver Plated Crystal Cut Glass Spirits Barrel by John Grinsell & Sons. Originally called Grinsell & Bourne, it was founded in Birmingham in 1864. Following the dissolution of the partnership in 1871, John Grinsell and his four sons—Jose Charles Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, and Thomas Bywater Grinsell—founded John Grinsell & Sons. The company maintained showrooms in Glasgow and London in addition to its main office at Victoria Works, 57 Tower Street, St. George's, Birmingham. The company was renamed John Grinsell & Sons Ltd in 1905, and Barker Ellis & Co Ltd finally bought it. An extraordinary and uncommon English Victorian spirit barrel crafted by renowned silversmith John Grinsell & Son (shield with bow and arrow mark). It is highly unusual to find one of these barrels in cut crystal. The hefty crystal is truly magnificent, with fine and complex deep cutting that glows. A silver-plated collar and cork with straps around and fastening the glass to the silver-plated stand are affixed to the glass. A tap with a detachable drip bucket that is gilded inside is located at one end. In Very Good Shape.
