H. L. Brisbane and Wunderlich Ltd., whose principal business was the production of baked clay tiles and earthenware goods, produced a line of ceramic figurines and practical items known as Wembley Ware between 1946 and 1961 in Perth, Western Australia. The "Fancy Ware Range" included Australian flora and animals, such as koalas, kangaroos, emus, and fish, as well as Aboriginal characters and useful items such as vases, ashtrays, plates, and bowls. Following World War II's austerity, there was a ready market for these new, non-essential but ornamental objects, which were marketed both by mail order and in department stores. Many of the ornaments at Wembley represented Australian wildlife. Kangaroos, emus, and koalas with realistic modelling and naturalistic colouring are in high demand. The penguin, turtle, and black cat are less Australian, but just as collectable - and less common - animals. The Wembley ware line also included a number of fish figures, the most popular of which was the dhufish. Vases were manufactured in a variety of styles and finishes, including a tan-shaped, flared nexk, and swan posy vase, among the more practical objects. 'Calyx Ware' and 'Bristile China' were two other trade names used by the business over various ownership changes. Gorgeous Collectible Gold Lustre Glaze Swan Figurine with Duck Egg Blue Interior shows very little wear and comes with Original Makers Decal. Item is from C.1950s.
