J & G Meakin Ltd may be traced back to the 1850s, when it was founded as an earthenware maker at the Eagle Pottery, and it remained in the Meakin family until 1968. In 1970, Meakin and Midwinter Potteries merged, and the resulting company was acquired by the Wedgwood Group. J & G Meakin Ltd was one of the first British potters to explore with Art Deco shapes in the 1930s, and the Studio and Horizon shapes continued this concentration on modern designs and shapes in the postwar years. Russel Wright, the American industrial designer well known for his American Modern ceramic tableware, had a big effect on these shapes. In 1964, Meakin introduced a new Studio shape, which included the distinctive tall coffee pot and was used as a foundation for many 1960s and 1970s designs by designers including Jessie Tate and Eve Midwinter. Set comes in Good Condition. The Saucer is a genuine J & G Meakin piece.
