The oldest still operational glassworks in Sweden is Kosta. Since 1742, the furnaces have been lit. We cordially invite you to join us in the warmth of a true Swedish craftsmanship. This is your chance to watch Kosta Boda's items being made in the light of the furnaces. From molten glass melting to glassblowing, cutting, and painting, everything is done by hand. On July 26, 1742, the Kosta glassworks, named for its founders, Generals Koskull and Staël von Holstein, Ko + Sta, opened its doors. Since that time, glass technology and expertise have been perfected in the Swedish woodland area of Småland. Kosta’s location, in the centre of the deep woodlands in the Swedish district of Småland, was chosen so that the glassworks could furnish both Stockholm and Karlskrona with glass. Important highways crossed here, and there was also an endless supply of wood to heat the furnaces. Gunnar G:son Wennerberg, who joined the glassworks in 1898, was the initial designer. Since then, a number of well-known artists have worked here, including Sven X-et Ericsson and Ewald Dahlskog. Tyra Lundgren, the first female artist, was hired in 1935. Since then, many women have worked at the glassworks and achieved great success. In 1976, the company was renamed Kosta Boda AB, and it has been a part of Orrefors Kosta Boda AB since 1989. Contrast Light Blue Hand-Made Glass Bowl comes in Excellent Original Condition with Makers Decal.
