Thomas Allen and Spencer Green began doing business as T.A. & S. Green in 1876. The company changed its name to the Crown Staffordshire Porcelain Co. Ltd. in 1889. A broad variety of bone china products, including dinnerware, tea and coffee ware, miniatures, vases, cutlery handles, door furnishings, and flowery china baskets, were being produced by the turn of the century. The company manufactured badged ceramics for the military forces during World War II, although no earthenware was produced at that time. In order to enhance postwar production of decorated goods, a factory in Heron Cross was bought in 1946. In 1948, the company's name was changed to Crown Staffordshire China Co. Ltd. The Crown Staffordshire China Co. Ltd. was the biggest manufacturer of china flowers in the Potteries, and the decorating division employed over 200 workers. The Green family owned and ran it until 1965, when Semart Importing Co. of New Jersey, USA, purchased it. Before to joining the (Josiah) Wedgwood Group in 1973–1974, Semart remained to use the Crown Staffordshire moniker. Coalport pottery was no longer produced when the Minerva Works took over in 1985.
