Fine Country Cottage Set of Round Dining Table and 4 English Windsor Dining Chairs. Made of Pine and Dates back to C.1970s. Dining Table rests on 4 Legs. Chairs feature bowed top rail enclosing a shaped fret carved centre splat, saddle seat and turned legs. The Windsor Chair first appeared around 1710 and was named after the English town of Windsor. The back and sides of this kind of chair are made of numerous thin, turned spindles that are fastened to a sturdy, contoured seat. It has slightly curved back and straight legs that spread outward. According to legend, King George II received a multi-spindled chair after stopping at a peasant hamlet to seek refuge from a storm. He was so moved by its cosiness and simplicity that he had his own furniture manufacturer construct a duplicate. The Treasury of American Design and Antiques by Clarence P. Hornung claims that the Windsor trend originated from this encounter. Vintage Set is in Great Condition.
