The Hammersley family of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, has been using the commercial name and well-known back stamp Royal Windsor for at least 150 years. The Hammersley family also conducted business as Palissy. The Hammersely "empire" was overthrown in 1958 when Palissy ceased production. The Aynesley family had a strong rivalry with Hammersley china. Several times, the Aynesleys attempted to buy out the Hammersleys. Purchased by Royal Worcester Spode was Palissy. The long-desired Hammersley China back stamp, trading name, and a few copyrighted designs and decals were eventually acquired by Aynsley. Royal Windsor's rights were also obtained by Anysley via affiliation, although they haven't done anything with it since the early 1960s.
