The Beale narrative, which had humble beginnings in the latter half of the 19th century and is a tale of Australian commitment to industry, achievement, and greatness, is an inspiration to all. The building that housed the factory at 47 Trafalgar Street, Annandale, which was built in 1893 by Octavius Charles Beale, still survives today, attesting to the resilience of the then-thriving Australian piano industry. In reality, between 1893 and 1975, Beale and Company produced almost 95,000 pianos, making them the largest piano maker in the British Empire. Beale set out to make every component of his pianos himself. He added an astounding variety of trades to the factory, including power plants, joinery shops, cabinet departments, veneer works, paint and pattern shops, machine and electro-plating departments, keyboard action-making and fitting, tuning, and intonating, drying kilns, dust-proof polishing rooms, and experimental labs. Brass and iron foundries were also added, which were "incorporated into only one other piano factory in the world." Even the ownership of the forests from which the hardwoods are sourced, dried, processed, and finished with have been meticulously picked for Beale's pianos. Because Beale's manufacturers either own or produce the key components of the piano, they can guarantee that their pianos are put together and made with quality.
