W. H. Grindley was an English pottery firm that produced flow blue earthenware and ironstone tableware. William Harry Grindley, JP (b. 1859) of Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent formed the company in 1880. Grindley and Alfred Meakin (of the J. & G. Meakin company) started the company at the Newfield Pottery in 1884, but the partnership broke in 1884, and Grindley continued on his own. In 1891, it was relocated to the Woodland Pottery. In 1926, William Harry Grindley passed away. Alfred Clough took over W. H. Grindley in 1960, and the company was renamed Grindley of Stoke in 1978. In 1980, the firm purchased Ceramix, which was afterwards purchased by Federated Potteries in 1982, before being purchased again by W. H. Grindley in 1988. Woodlands Pottery took over the company after it went into receivership in 1991. The Stoke-on-Trent City Archives holds pattern books and records from 1880 to 1930.
