In 1905, Fenton Art Glass began as a glass decorating enterprise, painting on simple blanks produced by other glassware companies. After moving from Ohio to Williamstown, West Virginia in 1907, Fenton began producing its own glassware lines as demand for the company's creations grew. Fenton drew inspiration from the designs of Tiffany and Steuben throughout their early years. As a result, iridescent glass collectors, now known as carnival glass, were introduced. According to information previously published in Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide (now out of print), Fenton went on to manufacture more than 130 types of this popular glassware, some of which sell for very high prices today. Fenton made custard glass, chocolate glass, opalescent glass, and stretch glass, among other things, over the years. It also created utilitarian items like mixing bowls, juice reamers, and other glass kitchen items to keep the factory running through the hard times of the Great Depression and World War II. Fenton stayed on track in the late 1940s, when many glass companies were going out of business, thanks to loyal family members steering the ship. By 1986, the third generation of Fentons had taken over the company and was continuing to produce glassware that was collected and admired all over the world. March Aquamarine Bear comes in Original Condition.
